I’ve never had any of the used cars I’ve bought inspected and haven’t had any problems but I’m helping my buddy buy his first car and I think it would be a good idea. What should I tell him to ask the mechanic?

I purchased a used 2003 Hyundai Sonata from a dealer and I only got a key for the doors, no remote. How can I find out if my car has the compatability to have the remotes for the locks?
The dealer is a used car lot that bought the car from auction so they dont know

I want to buy a used car and want to hire a mechanic to help me do an inspection. How much do you think I should be charge for the mechanic’s time and travel?

I know nothing about cars and need someone who knows how an engine works. To all mechanics and anyone who knows one, how much is reasonable for a mechanic to charge me for his time and efforts in helping inspect the car to see if it’s a good buy or not?

I have about 6500 to spend on a used car. I’m looking at Jeep Liberty or Ford Mustang. I found a 2005 Jeep Liberty with 91,000 miles on it. It has a 3.7 V6, and it looks great. Is that too much mileage? What is the most amount of mileage I should consider when buying a used car? Also, I found a 2000 Mustang with low miles, but it is ten years old, should I consider that one?

My friend needs a stopgap for a year or so to wait for her credit to get better to purchase a new car. Her old car is breaking down more often, she wants to buy a used car, doesn’t want to lease. Wants to spend less than 5k. As far as possible repair costs are concerned, what is the cheapest, safest make/model to look for?

She needs enough room in the trunk to fit a wheelchair to transport her grandma, etc. She wants good gas mileage (30+). What is a reliable used car to buy that will work as well on it’s 100k’s as it did in it’s 10k’s?

I have a 1996 Grand Am SE, whenever I go to start the car up, there is like a rattling noise under the hood, it sounds kind of like something is trying to start up..I have no idea what it could be. Any ideas on what could be wrong? The noise only lasts a couple seconds, once the car is started up, it runs perfectly fine.

I have an ’07 Mustang I bought new. It has less than 27,000 miles on it. I’ve been informed that it needs a new battery, but it seems like this NEW battery in a NEW car didn’t last very long. I’ve bought used cars with the original battery that lasted longer – a 3 yrs old car with over 70,000 miles on it, drove for 2 more years on the original battery. So how long SHOULD a car battery last?

I have a 1987 Buick Lesabre Custom.I replaced the fuel pump,fuel filter,and fuel relay.After I finish installing all the parts I turned the ignition switch and my car started right up.I did this job Sunday October 22,2006.Since then my car has not been able to start up and the battery keeps running down.Can some one tell me why I am not able to start my car or why the battery keeps running down,The car has a full tank of gas?Never did lose any gas from changing out the fuel filter or fuel pump.I have done what the answers that the guys gave me on this site and My father installed all the parts for me on my car he retired as a ASE Master Mechanic 48yrs as a mechanice and in the business.I went back and check the wiring for the fuel pump and it installed correctly and I changed out the fuel relays cause they are 20 yrs old.I have done everything that the guys here suggested that I do and the car still want start.Anymore suggestion?

I want to get a car from an auto auction, but want to avoid getting a car with transmission problems as much as possible. I know there is nothing I can do to try to detect transmission problems besides drive it(right???). Since I can’t test drive the car, maybe I can at least avoid some brands that are well known for having transmission issues.

We’ve tried all sorts of things to get the car to run, it wants to start and everything is in good condition, but the car won’t start. We are down to the fuel pump or the chip in the key being broken. The gauges don’t even budge either and I know I have gas in the car and an excellent battery and nothing flickers when I try to start the car, But the two lights that show up are the key light symbol and the fuel symbol. Its a 2000 Jeep Grand Cheeroke Limited.
