I can think of a couple risks:

1. risk that the car has hidden damage and might fall apart on you, or a major structural component that's been welded back together, fails at the worst possible time, killing (or worse, maiming) you and your family.
2. risk that the car has hidden damage and chews up tires, requiring you to buy a new set every 1000 miles.
3. risk that if wrecked, the insurance company will give it a very extremely very low value that will be really annoying.
4. risk that if you decide to sell it, nobody wants to buy it.

Although there would be no legal risk in driving a car which has been declared a "write-off" perhaps you may consider the possible risk to your life.
A car is deemed to be a write-off when the cost of repairs exceeds the market value of the car. My brother-in-law was driving his car which had been "written-off" three times but the only damage was cosmetic.
If you have any doubt about the car you can get an inspection by either the AA or the RAC.I am unsure how much they charge but it would give you peace of mind.
This answer can only apply to UK and Ireland law as that is where the question is posed in "Answers"

There shouldn't be any legal issue. If the vehicle has been fixed and registered with the DMV, you shouldn't have any problem with them, either.

The main reasons to avoid salvage titles include: you don't know what kind of damage has happened to the car, and when it will fail because of something related to that damage... resale value is approx. half of the normal resale value, no matter how slight or repaired the damage is ... and insurance costs will typically be higher because of this.

If you like the car, don't let the salvage title scare you away too much. If you don't know too much about cars, perhaps you should have a third-party mechanic take a look at it, just to make sure everything was adequately repaired.

It's also nice to know WHY the vehicle had a salvage title.. did the seller crash into someone? was it stolen? or flood-damaged? that info can help give you a clue if something goes wrong with the car later.

There is no legal risk involved providing you are in the uk. You can buy or sell any car in any condition. Lots of cars are declared 'a total loss' by insurance companies all the time but it doesn't mean that they cannot be road worthy.

Check the HP report on it. I think you can get this from the DVLA. This is to see if it has been in an accident or not.

You also need to be sure that it is going to pass it's next MOT.

Sounds a bit risky to me.
