I’m looking into buying a used car but before i buy one i want to get it checked out by a mechanic. However i don’t know any mechanic’s or have any friends that are. Do i bring the car to any reputable mechanic? If the car is already inspected, do i have to re-inspect it or just wait until it expires?

You can take it into an ASE certified mechanic shop; they would have scanning technology to inspect your car and they would tell you exactly what’s not good and what’s good. Goodyear, Autozone, etc.

Or you can take it into a local mechanic shop; they usually have scanning technology but they’ll probably make some commentary on how the brakes need work, transmission needs a rebuild, needs tire alignment, etc. Things that probably aren’t required.

You can have them come to your location:

Read this book. I’m sure you’ll find the answer to your question.
